![]() ![]() There’s some nice creepy menu music here, but levels are unfortunately quieter with only the crunch of alien bones to really provide any atmosphere. ![]() Unfortunately, one weapon in particular (flamethrower) caused the framerate to tank and later levels throw absolute hordes of bad guys at you which is quite the impressive spectacle (considering when Alien Shooter released) but again, this reduces the framerate to a slideshow in the single figures. What give it life is the weaponry, which includes things such as plasma rifles that light up the screen with green and red beams and leave the enemies in a sticky, bloody mess. ![]() Environmental design isn’t fantastic with a lot of samey looking grey corridors to funnel you towards the titular aliens, who themselves are just simplistic sprites that get recoloured every few levels to add a bit of variety. So this has a look of any early noughties isometric games about it such as Diablo, with a specific addition of eurojank found in so many titles from the continent. As such, you’ll be able to construct your own backstory, but this is still a missed opportunity.Īs a PC game from 2003, Alien Shooter has obviously aged and there have been no attempts to update it for Vita, which is most egregious in the fact that performance just isn’t very good. It’s a real shame to see no attempt at this, although there is environmental storytelling in the form of the mutilated corpses you’ll encounter or the smashed glass of an isolation chamber. The potential for a story about escaped aliens in a creepy series of underground laboratories is fantastic, but Alien Shooter makes no use of this – offering no plot throughout its bombastic campaign. ![]()
